Rage by cora carmack5/30/2023 ![]() ![]() Since I have the paperback edition of Roar, I ordered the paperback of Rage from Book Depository. This description basically tells me nothing!!! I need more! Roar left off on a total cliffhanger with Locke not knowing who Aurora is and with the identity of our main villain still a huge mystery (although I have some ideas □). Yet these storms are different…they churn with darkness, and attack with a will that’s desperate and violent. ![]() But the Rage season is at its peak and not a day passes without the skies raining down destruction. In disguise as the rebel Roar, she puts her knowledge of the palace to use to aid the rebellion. To set things right, she joins a growing revolution on the streets of Pavan. If Aurora knows anything, it’s that choices have consequences. Her Kingdom or the storm hunter she loves. **Disclaimer: The below post contains spoilers about book one, Roar in this series.** ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() Since happiness is the only intrinsic good, and since more happiness is preferable to less, the goal of the ethical life is to maximize happiness. Like Bentham, Mill believed that happiness (or pleasure, which both Bentham and Mill equated with happiness) was the only thing humans do and should desire for its own sake. Mill took many elements of his version of utilitarianism from Jeremy Bentham, the great nineteenth-century legal reformer, who along with William Paley were the two most influential English utilitarians prior to Mill. Though heavily criticized both in Mill's lifetime and in the years since, Utilitarianism did a great deal to popularize utilitarian ethics and has been considered "the most influential philosophical articulation of a liberal humanistic morality that was produced in the nineteenth century." Summary Mill's aim in the book is to explain what utilitarianism is, to show why it is the best theory of ethics, and to defend it against a wide range of criticisms and misunderstandings. The essay first appeared as a series of three articles published in Fraser's Magazine in 1861 (vol. ![]() John Stuart Mill's book Utilitarianism is a classic exposition and defence of utilitarianism in ethics. ![]()

The Secret of NIMH by Robert C. O'Brien5/29/2023 ![]() ![]() In my oral review, I reviewed Mrs Frisby and the Rats of NIMH. In addition to a midterm and final exam, we had to do one oral and several written book reviews. ![]() Although her main job was in an elementary school, she was qualified to be a college professor. The third was a children's literature class taught by a school librarian. The second class was a modern history class where the professor announced, "Modern history is anything that has happened while I have been alive." He also said, "History is written by the winners, and it mostly ignores the losers." One was an introduction to linguistics class, which I'll probably mention when I review The Bird Way. I did take three courses at The College of William and Mary that I loved, and I'm grateful I had the opportunity to experience. That all went for naught when we moved to California. ![]() Between 19, I took some additional college courses in hopes of getting a teaching certificate. ![]()

Saeed jones how we fight for our lives5/29/2023 ![]() ![]() Blending poetry and prose, Jones has developed a style that is equal parts sensual, beautiful, and powerful-a voice that’s by turns a river, a blues, and a nightscape set ablaze. Each piece builds into a larger examination of race and queerness, power and vulnerability, love and grief: a portrait of what we all do for one another-and to one another-as we fight to become ourselves. Through a series of vignettes that chart a course across the American landscape, Jones draws readers into his boyhood and adolescence-into tumultuous relationships with his mother and grandmother, into passing flings with lovers, friends and strangers. The ‘I’ it seems doesn’t exist until we are able to say, ‘I am no longer yours.’ ” Haunted and haunting, Jones’s memoir tells the story of a young, black, gay man from the South as he fights to carve out a place for himself, within his family, within his country, within his own hopes, desires, and fears.
