Knowing that Morton writes biographies without the subject's consent, I really don't put much stock into his words. I also remembered he also wrote one on Madonna, and that I have a copy of it somewhere, I just haven't gotten around to reading it. I read scathing reviews about Morton's biography on Angelina Jolie and it was dubbed as the worst book of the year when it came out. I wonder, too, what else she could have done had she more time to spread her wings. Reading this book now, what with Catherine and Prince George, and also Prince Charles finally marrying Camila, it does make me wonder what could have happened or how Diana would have felt had she survived or if the "accident" didn't happen. But it is understandable for the need of privacy since William and Harry were mere children at the time. I noticed also the children were only mentioned a few times and in passing. But in some ways it was still an enlightening read (hoping what he reported are all factual) and I have more understanding behind the activities of the royal family. I couldn't get a firm grasp on the timeline either, as the author didn't seem to prioritize chronological order. This to me read like a tabloid book, especially since most of the sources were unnamed. We got this copy from an aunt who bought all the commemorative books and magazines capitalizing on Diana's demise.

Hunger by roxane5/29/2023 The book is eye-opening and an open book for anyone that might draw courage from it. She states how acceptance is important, and is still working on accepting herself. The media, the press and most of the world has a certain way of looking at those that are obese - even now with the body positivity line. Gay's life was not only changed because of the rape she went through, but because of the way she was treated after she gained weight. At the same time, it shows the life of someone obese, without any filters or main focus on weight alone. The book clearly explains the connection between mind and body, and the way they affect each other. Gay's life was good, and so was her body until she went through experiences that altered the way she was around men, boys and the was she would look at her life forever. The book is not about weight loss, nor about health, but about how her body has evolved alongside her life. Hunger: A Memoir of (My) Bodycould be described as an ode by Gay to her body and the experiences it has been through. Our Nig by Harriet E. Wilson5/28/2023 Indeed, Barbara White has corroborated almost all of the details concerning the Bellmonts, whose nonfictional name is Hayward. Throughout the text Wilson makes it clear that Frado's life is based on her own. While the child born in her seduction narrative dies, her second child, Frado, lives it is Frado's story that Wilson narrates. Yet, rather than dying, Mag marries a black man in order to survive. Wilson opens her tale with the seduction of “lonely Mag Smith… alone and inexperienced… as she merged into womanhood, unprotected, uncherished, uncared for.” Her language mirrors, or perhaps parodies, the conventional seduction tale–the isolated young maiden, without a loving family to guide her, falls prey to “the voice” of her ravisher who then leaves her to her fate. While a quiet debate has emerged about how to classify Our Nig, critics agree that Wilson blends aspects of sentimental fiction, autobiography, and slave narratives. The hybrid form of Our Nig reflects the multi–pronged nature of Wilson's critiques. She extended the slave narrative's attack on chattel relations below the Mason–Dixon line by offering a scathing revelation of northern racism and a forceful critique of the then–sacred realm of domesticity. Wilson addressed race relations in the North. Wilson's Our Nig became the first novel by an African American to be published in the United States. Frances Ellen Watkins Harper's short story “The Two Offers” appeared, and Harriet E. The year 1859 was a year of important “firsts” for African American women's writing.
